Home

At this time of year when we reflect on our blessings, it would be a good time to remember our homebound seniors who may be spending the holidays alone. Do you or a friend have one hour a week that you could spend with a senior, it would be so much appreciated. Do you know a senior who could use a holiday dinner delivered? When you are out doing your errands could you take a little more time and pick up a prescription, or do some other errand for a senior who has no means of transportation?

Cathy Nickerson, Volunteer Coordinator

The Marshfield Council on Aging located at 230 Webster Street, Marshfield, has the following volunteer opportunities available:

Nurtition site services: Needed to assist in serving lunch Monday through Friday. To the seniors in the "Great Room:. Looking for volunteers for serving shift from, 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the clean-up shift, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be added China dishes and silverware to the lunches, so clean-up takes longer.

Meals on Wheels drivers: Needed to deliver a hot noon time meal to the homebound seniors. Need someone to deliver on Mondays to the Ocean Bluff area. Always need on call volunteers to deliver meals in the Marshfield Hills area, Rexhame Beach areas and Winslow Village Elderly housing areas. You must supply your own vehicle, mileage is reimbursed.

Great Room hostess: Looking for a hostess for the dining room on Wednesdays. This would include taking attendance and mingling with the seniors.

Senior Gift shop: Looking for help in the senior's gift shop located at the senior center. Hours are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Front desk receptionists: Looking for friendly people to help answer the phones and greet the people. Shifts are flexible, help is needed Monday through Friday.

If any questions of these opportunities look challenging to you, call Cathy Nickerson at 781-834-5581 or come to the center to fill out a volunteer application.

Mileage Reimbursement
In an effort to provide a more equitable mileage reimbursement rate, the Board at OCES voted to incrase mileage reimbursement from $.36 per mile to $.375 per mile, the IRS approved rate. The effective date of this increase is July 1, 2004. This increase includes all volunteer drivers that deliver meals for Old Colony Elderly Services.
